​     The van came back to Earth to shatter into thousands of pieces. People didn't have time to get out of the way. A huge crowd like that, the street packed with cars, the sidewalk filled with people eager to experience Domitika for free on Opening Day. The van landed right in the middle of traffic, but its pieces went flying off in every direction like bullets. A piece of shrapnel caught one guy in the jaw. A group of eight pedestrians were caught in the middle of crossing the intersection at the walkway. They fell like bowling pins, each of them clutching the part of their body where the shrapnel hit them. Cars slammed into where the van smashed into the middle of the intersection, then other cars slammed into them.
