Forty minutes earlier:

"I don't know about any of you," Abby said to her children, "but I'm hungry."

"I'm starving," Skip replied. "I was just about ready to go into the kitchen and get something."

"Where's a bathroom?" Alison asked. "I need to wash up."

"Cathy, show your sister where her bedroom is," Abby said. "Every bedroom has its own bathroom, dear."

"I don't need a bedroom," Alison said. "I'm not staying."

"You can use mine," Cathy said.

"I'm thinking tuna sandwiches," Abby said to her son. "What's your vote?"

     "Whatever," Skip replied.

Abby asked the refrigerator to provide the ingredients: tuna, salad dressing, fresh bread and tomatoes and lettuce and cheese and pickles. She sliced up the cheese and tomatoes and diced the pickle. She mixed the tuna with the salad dressing and diced pickles, then spread it over the bread slices. She topped that with the sliced tomatoes and cheese. She finished the process by cutting each sandwich in half. She could have asked the refrigerator to make the sandwiches for them, but Abby liked to do it herself because she felt she added an extra ingredient to the sandwiches, and that extra ingredient was love.
