"Head for the van!" Gramps shouted. "We're getting out of here!"

That sounded like a great idea to everybody.

The Azure and algren continued to fire on each other.

The algren's goal was to get to Galatea, the Azure's to keep them away.

     And this entire time?

Noel stayed submerged in the muck.

No one could see him anywhere. Then,

     SPLASH!

     Shawnacy flew into the gunk.

For several seconds, neither of them could be seen.

     Then,

Shawnacy flew free, Noel in her arms, and both covered with brown, smelly goop. She flew them to Gramps and Niki's van. The door opened just as they got to it so Shawnacy could fly them inside.

Adam ran for the van with Galatea in his arms...

which caused an immediate flurry of activity.

The algren converged to confront Adam Forwarder to either snatch Galatea or blast them both to pieces.

They got stopped, each time, by the Azure, who had blasters of their own.

Brock, spent, couldn't fly to the van in his wheelchair. He had to use the old-fashioned way, wheeling himself through the muck.

     Yuck!

Estelle and Gramps stayed at Adam's side. If an algren soldier got close enough to strike at him or make a grab for the baby, Estelle would give them a good, hard bop to send them flying.

Trevor and Niki hovered overhead to come at the algren soldiers from above. Trevor kicked them. Niki kicked them and zapped them with the gun she'd borrowed from Gramps and was now so grateful for. She also dropped grenade marbles where she saw algren soldiers grouped together.

     BAM! BAM!

The algren formed a barrier between Adam and the van even as, around them, the algren and Azure warships blasted away at each other.

Estelle waded right into them swinging both fists.

Adam and Galatea had yet to be hit.

Still, they would make no progress for the van.

Damn it, we're not going to make it, both Niki and Estelle thought at the exact same time.
