Axel loved to fly. No, he loved to soar. He loved this whole new perspective, this viewing Seatrailia in a way very few people ever would, flying above the trees, above the houses, above the buildings and warehouses and gas stations and stores. Everything seemed to flatten out that high up. The cars looked like toys, the people like ants. He flew over the high school he'd attended with dear Anna Wrede the year before. He flew over the hospital where, nineteen years before, he'd been born.

Five minutes later he saw it, his destination.

The skyscraper that was the HQ of Montcrief Technologies.

It sat amongst the other dozen or so very tall buildings that made up the core of downtown Seatrailia. Glittering glass and glowing lights, most of them, but, that night at least, the Montcrief building still stood out. It wasn't just lit but brilliantly lit from four arc lights from four different angles while two more reached into the sky to let the city know that, that night, Livia Montcrief was having herself one hell of a celebration. A massive "M" three stories high, glowing bright red, graced each of the four sides of the skyscraper. As he neared the building, Axel actually saw the party itself. He flew right at the thirtieth floor, and he saw people milling around, dancing, drinking cocktails, all dressed so very, very well. He accelerated as he drew ever nearer. The plate glass window made it easy to see everything inside in vivid detail.

Here I come, he thought. Here comes the Silver Scorpion.

     And then he grinned.

He planned on making quite an appearance.

His last thought before he smashed through the plate glass was, I see people looking out the window, yet no one sees me. This is their last moment of peace before...before...
