Trevor hit the corner of 5th and Greatway.
Egoneg filled the sky.
And Pomimi rose in the air, headed right for him.
"Where's Niki?" Fathom asked.
"That's a good question." Immediately, as per Azure training, Trevor's mind clicked into tracking mode. Had Pomimi already saved Niki? Yes, probably. That would have been his first priority before rising to attack Egoneg. So, he'd gotten her out of that panel truck. Where was she now? Niki was badly injured. Pomini'd take her somewhere he felt she could be safe, away from the crazed crowd. A roof? No. Why risk her maybe falling? On the ground then, in an alley or a...Trevor turned off his thinking mind, again, like he'd been trained by the Azure, to let his tracking instincts rise to take over. For several seconds, Trevor tried not to self-articulate any thoughts at all. But then,
"We need to get back to the ground," Fathom said. "I'm losing my grip."
"In a second."
"I'm about to let go, Trevor!"
"Of course. I'm sorry." Trevor stayed high in the air for one more moment, though. He needed to actually see the entire area where Niki might be. She'd be invisible, of course. Pomimi wouldn't want her to be prey for any...
There.
There was a lawn almost directly below where Pomimi had flown up in the air, a well-maintained patch of green that, generally, because it was part of a government facility, most people stayed off of.
Trevor dropped to the lawn of the municipal building.
Fathom let go of him to stand on her own.
"Niki!" Trevor yelled.
Nothing. No response.
I guessed wrong, Trevor thought. She's somewhere else. She's miles away. She's...
No.
"She's passed out," Trevor said. "She might even be...Niki! Feel around for her, Fathom. She's invisible, but she's..."
"Here she is!" Fathom yelped. "I've got her!"
Trevor felt for Niki's wrist to check her pulse. He needed to know for absolutely certain that she was alive. Yes! Yes, it was weak, but she did have a pulse.
"Niki!"
Above them, Egoneg blocked what sunlight found its way through the clouds.
Trevor looked up.
Pomimi had all but reached his destination.
