Who would go to a lesbian bar at ten thirty in the morning? Niki asked herself as she neared Rhoda's.

People who needed to drink or people who desperately needed to get laid or both, that's who.

Niki fell squarely into that second category.

She didn't even make it all the way to the entrance.

She got to within six feet of the door when a woman kind of "accidentally" bumped into her as she passed. Nothing threatening. Nothing too aggressive.

     Still, the bump was intentional.

Niki got a good look at her even as she got a good look at Niki.

What Niki saw was a huge woman, full and thick. She shaved her head, but she hadn't for a while so it looked like she had a three day beard all over the top of her skull.

She also had a thin, although quite noticeable, moustache.

"There's nothing going on in there," she said. "It's so dead I think even the bartender's thinking of going home."

     "Seriously?"

"No, I'm kidding. They just opened. It is dead, though."

"Who are you? What's your name?"

     "People call me Big Wally."

"You hungry, Big Wally? I haven't eaten yet today. I was hoping to catch a little something here."

"What are you hungry for, breakfast or lunch?"

     "Doesn't matter."

"I know a place about six blocks from here. You walking?"

     "Unless you've got a car."

     "You paying?"

     "Sure am."

     "Let's go, then. Come on."
