Opening day:
The commercial message ran constantly on almost every TV station in Seatrailia beginning the week before Opening Day.
First, a single word emblazoned on the screen.
DOMITIKA!
Followed by an image of two teen-aged boys helping to storm a castle. They were dressed in blue jeans, tennis shoes, and T-shirts, but they fought alongside those who looked like nothing less than King Arthur-era medieval warriors. Catapults unleashed. The clang of sword meeting sword could be heard everywhere. Overhead, dragons undulated lazily through a clear blue sky. The teens used swords to cut through a mob of six-foot goblins. It looked like the teens were having the time of their lives. Everything looked so real.
Announcer's voice: DOESN'T THAT LOOK FUN?
The next scene was inside a nightclub. A couple hundred people rocked to what looked to be a live band. It wasn't live, though. Couldn't be. It was a boy band that appeared on the stage, one of the most popular some thirty years before, yet there they all were, teen-agers again, hopping around on stage and singing their greatest hits. Impossible, yet there they were.
Announcer's voice: AND DOESN'T THIS LOOK LIKE FUN?
The most famous characters in children's media at the moment were a group of wise cracking, fun loving, family oriented chipmunks who lived in a town called Chopwood.
Yes, they were the Chopwood Chipmunks.
And there was Chopwood itself, on the screen, as if a cartoon, quite literally, had become real. and there were the four Chopwood Chipmunks themselves, four feet tall and furry and alive looking as their counterparts in the trees. In Chopwood, there were slides and roller coasters and twenty other rides besides so that, on the screen, it all looked like one swirl of fun for the whole family.
Announcer: AND, FOR YOU SINGLES...
A hot tub. Two guys and two women. They held martini glasses, and they all wore swimsuits, although it was easy to imagine everyone without them, and everyone laughed wildly and seemed to be having a wonderful time.
Now the images on the screen split into four sections. In one corner of the screen, a couple held hands while they floated weightless amongst the stars. In another corner, you were the rock star, warbling to a wildly enthusiastic audience. In another, a couple shared a beverage with an umbrella in it on a beach with a shining white sun overhead. In another, an entire family rode the biggest rollercoaster ever as they waved their arms wildly and whooped with delight.
Announcer: AND IT'S ALL AT DOMITIKA. DOMITIKA, WHERE YOU CAN FLY ON THE BACK OF A GIANT EAGLE OR DATE THE MOST GLAMOROUS MOVIE STAR IN HOLLYWOOD!
