     Adam Forwarder saw them, then.

Damn it! He had a suspicion he'd be seeing them in this damned nightmare reality. Adam once dwelled on a planet for a lifetime or two whose dominant species was preyed upon by something they referred to as "worm spirits". These "spirits" had the consistancy of greasy smoke, and when they found a victim that would surround it like a coating, then feed on the poor, helpless creature. Adam felt fear so seldom, it could easily be said he never felt afraid at all. Say, instead, that he had a nice, healthy respect for the killing power of these merciless creatures.

And now Adam saw hundreds of them.

They circled Adam and Myanna. Although they didn't quite touch him, he still smelled their fetid breath and felt their slimy skin brush against his. At one point, they so surrounded him he could see nothing else.

Where's Adama? he thought. Where is Adama to guide me out of this hostile, doomed dimension?

He didn't swing at them with his free hand because he knew that would accomplish nothing.

What he needed was a sword, a sword made up of the only kind of green crackling energy that could slice into a worm spirit, Yeah, if only he had an energy sword he could...

     One appeared in his hand.

     It glowed green.

It worked great against the worm spirits.

"Fly!" Adam cried. "Fly, my beloved friend and steed, Myanna!"

Every time Adam sliced into a worm spirit, they would shreik.

Adam heard a lot of shrieks.

     He loved that sound.

He sliced away at the spirits until they scattered to flee from the blade.

Once again, he could see Adama flying ahead of them.

"How much farther?" he called out to her.

Adama merely smiled and continued to lead the way.
