A dozen bird-like devices rose from the rubble. They flitted all around the Coal-Maiden's head. They pelted her with grenade bullets. BAM! BAM! BAM! Tindriss swatted at them like bothersome flies.

A weapon big as a tank rose from the ground.

     An anti-matter transmitter.

     A planet destroyer.

Point this weapon at the moon, hit the trigger, and the moon would, eventually, come apart at the seams, dissolving first into rock, then into pebbles, then into dust, then into nothingness.

What emitted from the weapon was a thin, black ray that glowed as it singed the air.

The ray hit Tindriss right in the chest.

It sent her flying back a hundred yards to land flat on her butt.

She jumped back to her feet.

Claudia hit Tindriss with another anti-matter burst, and back Tindriss went another hundred yards. It took her longer to get to her feet this second time. Good. She could be worn down, just like any other living entity.

"She can be beaten," both Adam and Claudia said at the same time.
