"Bye," Niki said.
She did not turn invisible.
She shrugged.
"Worth a try," she said.
"We could go back to hovering," Trevor suggested.
That'd turned into a problem, though.
A dozen assailants with laser whips floated overhead on their anti-gravs.
"Okay, hovering's out." Niki stomped on the ground she stood on. "What's underneath all of this?"
"More garbage, right?" Trevor responded.
"I don't think so. I think there's..."
Assailants came at them silently, and they moved in shadow, and they didn't flick on their laser whips until they were almost on Niki and Trevor.
"Fine," Niki muttered. Then, to Trevor, "Come on."
Back to back.
Trevor took up the rear.
Niki continued down the path, either flying over those she encountered or fighting her way past them.
To what end, though? Where were they even headed? It was all so fucking frustrating.
"Tell me when you've had enough," Niki said.
"Not yet," Trevor replied.
